Beyond IT: Building Cabinet Buy-in for a ‘Zero Trust’ Cybersecurity Program

Join the K12 Security Information eXchange (K12 SIX) and iboss for an informational webinar on how and why to implement a Zero Trust cybersecurity risk management program in your school system.

Given the increasing threats to technology infrastructure across our districts and the seismic impact of a breach on district finances, community trust, and ability to deliver instruction, it is vital that school districts implement a comprehensive, districtwide cybersecurity risk management program grounded in the principles of ‘Zero Trust.’ The Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) Framework represents a new paradigm for modern IT architecture, specifically designed to address emerging K-12 cybersecurity risks attributable to cloud-based systems and assets, remote users, and bring your own device (BYOD) programs/policies.

While the assumption may be that technical architecture decisions are solely the purview of school IT leaders, the implications for district leaders of implementing a cybersecurity risk management program grounded in Zero Trust are non-trivial. Ownership for such a cybersecurity risk management program must reside with the entire executive leadership team and address not just the technology, but the role of people and processes in securing district assets.

In this webinar, participants will leverage the latest national research from Project Tomorrow on the state of cybersecurity preparation and be introduced to the paradigm of Zero Trust and practical approaches to its implementation in real-world settings. Advice and suggestions will be offered to address the concerns and aspirations of district leadership beyond IT for embracing cross-organizational buy-in to more robust cybersecurity risk management grounded in Zero Trust.
